ASTR 150 - Killer Skies: Astro-Disasters

The Universe is huge! And we on the "Pale Blue Dot" that we call Earth are vulnerable to many astronomical disasters, such as the large impactor that killed off the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. This is only one example of many astronomical threats awaiting our scientific exploration.

In this class, we will explore the most dangerous phenomena in the Universe, such as impacts, solar storms, the death of the Sun, exploding stars, rogue black holes, colliding galaxies, and the end of the Universe itself. As we endeavor to learn about the possibilities of danger in the Universe, we will explore our current scientific understanding of the underlying astronomical phenomena. Take part in the journey, and let's enjoy the ride!
