Intermediate Jazz: Introduction to basic dance techniques and stylistic work in the jazz idiom for experienced dancers. Emphasis on a conceptual understanding of jazz style (as related to America's own cultural diversity) and the development of the specific skills necessary for performance and teaching. Prerequisite: Major standing in Dance or consent of instructor.

This course is designed for students interested in exploring the relationship between dance and camera, and the fundamentals of dance documentation. We will explore the technical and compositional capabilities of High definition cameras and film-editing software to create dance performance documentation. Students will learn how to execute clear and effective camerawork in relation to dance performance and dance film, and to utilize editing software to most clearly display the artistic intent of choreographers and directors. This class will be a yearlong process divided into a semester of camera operation and a semester of editing. The students will work to create and implement projects exploring technical and artistic aspects of camera and editing work, and will be required to shoot a full performance run at least once during the year.

Advance Jazz 410: Continuation of DANC 110, emphasizing the conceptual understanding of the jazz style and development of specific skills necessary for this idiom. Prerequisite: Major standing in Dance or DANC 110 or equivalent and consent of instructor.
